What is Herndon Village Network?
The "village” idea started more than fifteen years ago in Boston, Massachusetts, and has spread quickly throughout the country. Many localities are now organizing villages to meet the needs of the local population. The fundamental idea is for entire communities helping seniors, who can no longer manage all the areas of their daily lives. With assistance they may be able to remain in their homes, in familiar surroundings and maintain a higher quality of life.
The average village is organized in an area with a population of 30,000-50,000. The greater Herndon area is a perfect locality for such an organization. Volunteer drivers use their time and talents to assist seniors with transportation.
Operational decisions are made by a Board of Directors. HVN is funded through donations and grants.
